Charles G. "Chick" Doak was born on 7 October 1884 in North Carolina. From 1908 to 1916 he played for minor league baseball teams in various North Carolina cities. He coached baseball at Guilford College (early 1910s), the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (1915-1916), and Duke University (1920). At NC State College (which later became NC State University), he coached the baseball team from 1924 to 1939, and Doak Field there is named after him. In 1936, he wrote a book called...
